Their story
John and I met back in April 2008 at a Mexican restaurant in the west village of New York City. When I first met him, I thought he was so charming, sweet, and had such a cute Scottish accent. At the time, John played hard to get, but within a short time John and I fell in love, and a year and a half later, John proposed in our NYC apartment. When it came time to plan our wedding we decided on New York City because it was where we met and fell in love, and also because it was a central point for our friends and families; John’s friends and family from Scotland and my family in Florida and California. I decided not to use a professional wedding planner because I wanted to plan all the details on my own and really have the wedding reflect our own style. The vision for my wedding was classic New York City, with Scottish elements. I searched a few different venues, and when I came across The Palace Hotel, I looked no further. It was one of the first hotels I saw when visiting New York City as a kid and I always thought it was one of the most beautiful hotels I’ve ever been to. When it came to the decor, I wanted a soft, romantic feel for the ceremony, with only lavender colored flowers and candlelight. My bouquet was a mixture of lavender colored roses and had Swarovski crystals wrapped around the stem, which I bought by the yard at M& J Trimming. For the reception we chose a mixture of lavender and white colored hydrangeas, roses, and orchids for the centerpieces with hanging crystals and candles. Our ceremony programs, created by PaperDolls of Saratoga, had a soft lavender colored celtic knot and green plaid tartan ribbon, to match John’s kilt.
