Last January, both John Michael Cooper and I were fortunate to be speaking at the DWF conference in Phoenix. Since we had some free time, we both spent a few days at the PPA conference running at the same time. JMC hitched a ride with me back to the hotel each night, and then on the last day out to the airport. Our conversations always centered around photography (duh!) but always ended up focusing on the creative process. Truth be told, I’ve been a huge fan of John for years and what I loved about him most is his ideas. Always new, always edgy, and always super cool. The thing that I love most, though, is his intensity and passion for what he does. Each time he brings something new to the table, and the results always inspire…..
On the last day as we drove to the airport, despite GPS navigation we were so deep in convo that I missed several turns. :) After passing through security (convo still going) I said, “You know dude, the last three days of conversation would have been an awesome workshop.” He glanced up at me and replied, “Hmm. Yea your’re right!” We left for our gates…..
What did we chat about? The process. The process of Concept 2 Execution on our shoots. From the stacks of notebooks that JMC keeps for inspiration, (man I’d love to have an afternoon with those!) to the inspiration boards I like to make for each shoot. We discussed how we come up different lighting scenarios, and how we’ve worked hard to incorporate those same techniques into the wedding day.
We also chatted about how we stay fresh each and every year…even after so many years! I learned that JMC has been in the biz for 23 years, one more than I! So between us, we have almost 50 years experience. :)
…… I digress. I settled into my gate, and texted JMC — “How ’bout a workshop in October in NYC? :)”
Please join John Michael Cooper, Dalisa and I (let’s not forget Lindsey, too!) for a very unique two day experience.
